Have you got a strategy to be sassy?
If the last month of lockdown has underscored one thing, you can no longer rely on the security models of old to keep your users and data safe, as your business perimeter is now dynamic and everywhere.
Back in August 2019 Gartner published a report entitled “The Future of Network Security”. It clearly defines that security will be cloud orientated. In fact, Gartner have gone so far as to define a new security model known as “Secure Access Service Edge” (SASE), which is pronounced “Sassy”. Their definition:
“The Secure Access Service Edge is an emerging offering combining comprehensive WAN capabilities with comprehensive network security functions (such as SWG, CASB, FWaaS and ZTNA) to support the dynamic secure access needs of digital enterprises.”
SASE is essentially describing the trend of an increasing number of applications being outside the traditional data centre, with users connecting from everywhere and
sensitive data located across multiple cloud services. This poses significant security challenges that need to be addressed.
Enterprises may attempt to build their own SASE stack out of disparate vendors and cloud offerings. Stitching these together will likely lead to inconsistent management and enforcement, reduced performance, and a higher cost to deployments. So what is the answer?
The world’s leading security company, Cisco Systems, has an integrated portfolio which will deliver a complete SASE stack:
• Cisco Umbrella (formerly OpenDNS)
is a Secure Internet Gateway (SIG), an evolution of a Secure Web Gateway (SWG), which provides the first line of defence against threats on the internet wherever users and devices are.
• Cisco Cloudlock
is the cloud-native, Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) platform that secures your cloud users, data, and apps.
• Duo Security
is a cloud based Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) platform which enables Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) to be achieved for users accessing the network and applications.
These products combined with Cisco’s SD-WAN and Firewall-as-a-Service (FWaaS) capabilities, provide a very compelling answer to solve the challenge of how do I achieve SASE for my enterprise?
